A BRIEF REVIEW OF OUR PLANS TO BETTER THE LIVES OF OVIA NORTH EAST FARMERS

This review is very important at this time when it seems the presence of farmers are about to be recognized by the government. This document is aimed at helping to direct the interest of the reader to the actual reason this document is written.

Before the government of the most caring comrade came into power, there were various governments piloting the affairs of this state. Our question is what have they done to better the lives of farmers in Edo State or how much does this food producers mean to them? Most people may say that several farming seasons were declared open by these successive governments, but what was the result? The various kinds of improved seeds they distributed and other benefit claimed were given to the farmers who actually received them?
This government of our amiable governor, the governor of the people, talks and do governor, the man that listen with keenness to the voice of the oppressed, our one and only, Comrade Adams Alihu Oshiomhole, when campaigning to be voted for in the year 2006-2007, sworn to bring back the lost glory of Edo State from the popular slogan it is know for “the ancient city” to the one that befit it at this time “THE MODERN CITY”. And to do this, the lives of majority of the citizenry of the state need to be touched with the merciful hand of a good government. Those that are seriously scorched with this painful rod of distress are those in the grass root. Of which farmers form the larger percentage.
When this government was officially given back his stolen mandate in 2008, the expected changes started to take effect. Among the development brought about by this government were:-
  • Rehabilitation of Ring Road
  • Conversion of some major roads from four lane to six lane roads
  • Construction and rehabilitation of schools, and reactivating the value of education in Edo state
  • Rebuilding of burnt market and constructing new ones
  • Reposition the various government hospitals management and building new hospitals
  • Sinking of borehole in some communities, and provision of transformers to enhance stable light
  • Provision of vehicles and communication gadget to the Nigerian Police
  • Purchase of about 100 buses to reduce transport stress for the people
  • Supporting some artisans and some small scale entrepreneurs with grants
In the case of the food producers the governor also did his best by given them access to the N1b. loan directed to Nigerian farmers by the federal government of Nigeria, of which Edo State was a part. The government also paid her counterpart fund for the Fadama III program in the state.
But today where are we? We are not actually on the fast lane because as our comrade governor normally say, “ I will never allow myself to be treated as a slave in my own fathers house”. We the great farmers of Edo State are not disputing the fact the project mentioned earlier in this document are not tangible projects but we want to humbly request that the comrade governor treat us as children of the parents and not slave in the home. The farmers need more that the N1b for the about 3, 000 farmers co-operative groups in the state. And there must be a tutor to guild these farmers on the use of this money.
We want our most esteemed governor comrade Adams Oshiomhole to remember the promise he made to his parents in his early age that if he has the opportunity, he will make farmers the richest people on earth. What has happen now that our great God has listened to your request and granted your heart desires? Are you still ready and willing to make farmers the richest people on earth?
