t is sad to note that the various arm of government in my country are not living up to expectation. It is a wonder though that the various government in power has eventually becomes marooned, this is not unconnected with the fact that they have humbled themselves to the sting of sentiment.
But I have come to understand that sentiment is the only disease that does not have cure. That is why the country’s rulers are sinking deeply into the pit of corruption. The original speculators and promoters of corruption are those in the apex seat of power. From there it spread to those closely relating in the seat of governance, then to those with them in the cadre of politics, after which it spread to the civil and public servants, then to the religious and traditional rulers after which the private firms, and the general public takes their share.
WHERE THE WORST CORRUPTION SPRING OUT FROM
It is corruption at its height when the president/presidency, the governors and its executive, then the local government chairmen and their cabinets to hold on to the salaries of their workers at will for months or even years without considering how all those depending in the pay-role of such staff will feel. But to think of it, can they stay without money, has they ever owe themselves for any single month?
Let’s look at the security vote for instance has there ever been a month that they don’t receive it? If a leader really care and cherish their workers, and if they don’t want them to embark on illegally collecting money from the unsuspecting public thereby promoting corruption in their governments, WORKER ARE LEGALLY ENTITLED TO THEIR WAGES! That means, no government has the right to OWE its workers because it is an infringement on their legitimate right. Otherwise where does these inconsiderate government expect these faithful workers to raise money from to offset their houserent, pay their children fees, care for the health need of their people, pay transport to drivers that are collecting money from people with impunity claiming that the roads are not motor able.
OTHERS IN THE RANKING
How well are the soldiers, Airforce, Navy, The Police, Customs, Immigration, Civil Defense Corps and others that are not mentioned here really paid by those in charge? PEANUTS.
Why do you thing they won’t do things the wrong way in order to meet up with their financial demands? How will the military work effectively when those in power does not provide for them the required working facilities, the worst of all is the case of the police and the civil defense that does not have smart moving vehicle to fight crime. How would you expect security personnel to fight crime effective without good road and proper training?
What you see around you is the soldiers used as thugs to collect money from debtors by so-called bloody civilians. The police collecting thrift from the citizens they were supposed to secure.
In the line of corrupt service providers are the Network Service providers, the bankers, BEDC, Immigration, the Senate and Reps. Members. Just to mention few of them.
LET’S IMAGINE THIS
Could you imagine that we have almost 4 or more custom post in Edo that there is no seaport, we see those that were elected to represent them in the various houses of Rep. and Senate watching the way their people are being killed and slaughtered without shuddering, not even reasoning that they may need these people the next time they want to contest. Most major NIMC collect up to N3, 000= to register a NIN for the people. BEDC make the citizens pay them by force for providing darkness for them. The newly established security outfit in various state in Nigeria to augment the services of the police are not paid. Most time you hear the government saying that steepens is given to them, what is somebody standing in between life and death because of others expected to do with steepens when the governors are receiving millions for security vote alone?
We are prompt to believe that those in government are benefitting from the evil activities being perpetrating by the wicked creatures among us because they play fool on the legitimate citizens on the expense of the crooked ones in the society. Otherwise why should the government system in Edo state where you see hundreds of thousands of Bike rider, riding without driver’s license or particulars of the motocycle. Still they operate with freedom without the government interference as if that is the right thing to do. What about when such persons are involved in accident, how will they be identified and what happens to the revenue supposed to be raised through the said bikes?
The good and law abiding citizens of the land has complained repetitively about the way BEDC has been extracting money from them illegally, but to help, no succor, no defense not even from those supposed to be representing their interest in both the state and federal legislatives. Till today, most citizens of Nigeria has been crushed into paying for the energy they never consumed.
Now, it is the turn of the Edo Waste Management Board and their cohorts that has been sent outside to go and extract money from the law abiding citizens of the land. Should we allow this one too to freely penetrate our pockets and drill out our hard earned money?
