The Endocrine System

The Endocrine system (along with the nervous system) controls and regulates the complex activities of the body. The Endocrine system regulates the activities of the body by secreting complex chemical substances (hormones) into the blood stream. These secretions come from a variety of glands which control various organs of the body. The key functions are:

1. To regulate the metabolic functions of the body.
2. To regulate the rate of chemical reactions in various cells.
3. To influence the ability of substances to transport themselves through cell membranes.

About Hormones
Hormones
are secreted from the glands of the endocrine system, they are specific in that each hormone causes a response in a specific target organ or group of cells, rather than on the body as a whole. Exocrine hormones are secreted via a duct into the blood and usually effect a distant organ or tissue. Endocrine hormones are secreted within the tissue (rather than via a duct) and enter the blood stream via capillaries.
Hormones can be grouped into three main types:
1.      amines, these are simple molecules
2.      proteins and peptides which are made from chains of amino acids
3.      steroids which are derived from cholesterol.
Glands
discharge hormones directly into the bloodstream. They have built in feedback mechanisms that maintain a proper balance of hormones, and prevent excess hormone secretion. Low concentrations of a hormone will often trigger the gland to secrete. Once the concentrations of the hormone in the blood rise this may cause the gland to stop secreting, until once again hormone concentrations fall. This feedback mechanism (which is characteristic of most glands) causes a cycle of hormone secretions.
Disposal of waste.
Once hormones have served their function on their target organs/tissues they are destroyed. They are either destroyed by the liver or the actual tissues of the target organs. They are then removed by the kidneys.

The Pituitary Gland
This is known as the "master gland" because it exerts control over all of the other glands of the endocrine system. Despite its importance the pituitary gland is no larger than a small pea. The Pituitary gland is made up of two separate glands: the Anterior lobe which is an outgrowth of the pharynx, and the Posterior lobe which is an outgrowth of the brain composed of neural (nerve) tissue.
The Anterior Lobe of the pituitary plays the 'master' role secreting six major hormones that affect most of the body, including the other Endocrine glands:

“You will never walk alone, Kenyans” --- Hunger Relief Fundraising by BF Suma (Kenya)

The most severe drought ever happened in the past 60 years is now affecting the Horn of Africa. Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) predicts that the La Nina conditions will manifest in severe drought over many parts of Kenya, with arid and semi-arid areas the worst affected.

The Famine Early Warning System Network (FEWSNET) had earlier reported that approximately 700,000 people in the Northern part of the country could be classified as highly food insecure following
the failure of the 2010 short rains and 2011 long rains. Deterioration in grazing resources, coupled with severe water scarcity leading to long migrations, heightened clustering of livestock and resurgence of conflicts as communities compete for fast dwindling resources reported

In the view of this, on 2nd August 2011, all distributors and staff of BF Suma Kenya office initiated a fundraising campaign for the victims in famine, with the intention to extend a helping hand to the families who are suffering from starving in the Northern part of Kenya. A donation box passed on to the hands of distributors and BF Suma staff together with the genuine loves & concerns to alleviate human suffering during this time of drought in the Horn of Africa. The entire donation was passed to the Kenyans for Kenya Initiative.

'Caring' is one of the core values of BF Suma. Fulfilling social responsibility is always in line with its business philosophy. Victims are supported with actions and cares. Other than the exceptional business
talents, all distributors of BF SUMA exhibited the unconditional love and concerns to the community.

The Kenyans for Kenya initiative was launched on Wednesday 27th July 2011. This is an initiative that is spearheaded by Safaricom Foundation, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), Media Owners Association (MOA) and Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS).

Human body is certainly a masterpiece of nature that we were born with immunity and self-healing ability. Though our body complexities cannot be fully understood, health scientists have found out the major factors affecting our health, generally speaking, can be categorized as follows.
Out of the four factors, lifestyle counts the most. Also, it is the only factor that we can alter. If we continually practice damaging or self-defeating lifestyles, we will suffer from recurrent and chronic health problems along with frequent clinic visit, lifetime drug companion, and occasional hospitalization and surgery.

Thus, we should live in a healthy way immediately by:
- Balance diets and sufficient nutrients intake
- Enough rest and plenty of sleep
- Encourage variety of interests
- Ease the pressure and stress
- Selection of natural health supplement from reliable brand

Healthy? Disease? What Is Subhealth State?

"Subhealth” is a new terminology appears in recent years. It is "a state between health and disease when all necessary physical and chemical indexes are tested negative by medical equipments.”
In true, most people are lying at the subhealth state and this population is as high as 75%. Actually, it is a reversible state; we can back to healthy state if appropriate actions are taken, or suffer from diseases when the situation got worse. It is always easier for us to become healthy from subhealth other than taking a long way to store health from disease. More importantly, some disease and its corresponding treatments may bring irreversible damage to our body.

Risk factors of sub-health include "Six High & One Low", that is, high load (mental and physical), hypertension, hyperlipidemia, hyperglycemia, high weight, and low immunity.
